Have you got a teenager who has just passed their driving test?
I don’t know about you but I don’t know whether I was more scared at this time than when they were learning!
They seem to have this fresh enthusiasm and confidence, thrilled that they have passed and they think they are invincible. Off they go in the car enjoying the new found freedom and desperate to show all their friends that they can drive and have passed their test. It is like a right of passage for them. I reckon they get more of a thrill from passing their driving test than all the academic exams they take!
The problem is that we know just how hard driving can be, the total road awareness we need, the ability to anticipate other driver’s actions and possible danger from pedestrians and bikes.
We know the danger signs of tiredness and driver frustration and have developed coping mechanisms.
We have lots of motorway experience and we’ve driven at night plenty of times. They haven’t.
If you want to give your teenager a gift for passing their driving test , how about giving them a copy of my latest book with lots of NLP techniques for managing their state be it tiredness, frustration, fear, uncertainty. It also gives some great tips from experts in the field for driving more skillfully, things they won’t learn from their driving lessons.
You can buy the book on Amazon or from MX Publishing
